My Alice is owned by Carole and Stephen Heppell, raced with family, colleagues and friends. However, she has an interesting life beyond that too!
This site keeps track of her activities, races, research, history and fun. She is based on the Heritage Pontoon in Brightlingsea on the UK's East Coast, often winters at the St Katharine Docks next to the Tower of London, and can be seen racing or supporting classic and community events on the East Coast, sometimes the South Coast and - for the odd regatta - in mainland Europe too.
My Alice is one of the UK's precious National Historic Fleet. She is just on 70' feet overall - and downwind she is just on 70' wide!; she's a little over 11 and a half feet in beam, weighing in at 20 tons plus rig. She is number 132 of Classic Boat magazine's world's top 250 boats too.
My Alice cannot be chartered or hired. She is not for profit or commercial in any way but she has a strong community and historic role. She also has a life as a platform for global research consultancy heppell.net and in addition to her racing and community work, has been a test bed for various research and learning projects. She has a good relationship with classic boats around the world also involved in learning (particularly the Cervantes Saavedra in Valencia) and with accessible marine science initiatives like the Network Blue project in South Australia. My Alice carries some research data equipment - currently a Learnometer exploring the metrics of outdoor learning. She has a strong link with, and is a great supporter of, Brightlingsea's Beach School.org.
Away from all that hard work, she also enjoys moments of a glamorous life of TV filming on board, interviews, streamed presentations, entertainment and hospitality. We like to think that, more than a century on, Charles Kidby would be as proud of her as we are.
